Erik Erikson
Owner and Chief Motorcycle Safety Instructor
I started riding in 1976 when I was stationed at Nellis Air Force Base near Las Vegas Nevada. I had a Suzuki 185 motorcycle for off-road riding and later that year I bought a 1966 Harley Davidson Sportster XLCH motorcycle. Over the years I've owned a wide variety of bikes (mostly Harleys) and currently own a Harley Electraglide motorcycle and a Triumph Tiger motorcycle.
I was stationed at Lowry AFB in Denver the last 8+ years of my Air Force career. I worked in the Basic Munitions Course and in the Air Force Safety School. As an Instructor, Master Instructor and Instructor Supervisor I spent several thousand hours conducting classroom and hands-on training and wrote almost 300 hours of technical training curriculum. The training and experience I gained in these positions has proved invaluable in my work to build our motorcycle safety training program.
The Air Force required motorcycle riders to get trained and I was a student in several mediocre motorcycle safety classes until I attended my first Motorcycle Safety Foundation certified class in 1986 while stationed in Tucson Arizona. In 1987 while station at Lowry AFB in Denver I was trained as a certified Motorcycle Safety Foundation Instructor. In 1992 I was trained and certified as a Chief Motorcycle Safety Instructor which allowed me to start training Instructors. I was named as the Motorcycles Safety Foundation's Chief Instructor of the Year in 1996. This honor has been granted to less than 2 dozen Motorcycle Safety Chief's nationwide since the 1970s.
I formed Iron Buffalo Motorcycle Training to help teach motorcycle riders the safety skills necessary to enjoy motorcycling. As a professional educator with a passion for motorcycling this was the perfect pursuit for me. A focus on safe quality training has attracted the best Motorcycle Instructors that Colorado, or any other state, has. Best doesn't necessarily mean the fastest motorcycle riders, or the most demanding teachers. Best means people with a gift for leading others to success. I am extremely proud of our Motorcycle Instructors and how well they provide both challenge & guidance.
Currently I live near Central City with my wife Diane and grandson Owen. Owning a seasonal motorcycle business allows us to spend time in the winter at our second home near San Felipe, Baja Mexico.

All of our motorcycle safety courses for learning to ride a motorcycle safely are certified
by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and the Colorado Department of
Transportation. A motorcycle safety permit is not required to take our
motorcycle safety class. Our basic motorcycle safety class has
instructions on how to ride a motorcycle safely. This includes both the written test and driving test
for your Colorado motorcycle license. Passing our motorcycle safety
class means that you will not need to test at the Department of Motor
Vehicles.
